Preparing for Your Trip
Since you’re traveling to an international destination and will be paying for taxis, meals, etc., it will be helpful to have some local currency. You can request this from your bank and get it pretty quickly. You can also pay with your credit or debit card (VISA and Mastercard are usually accepted), and you can use your debit card to get cash from ATMs.
Notify your credit card company that you’re traveling. Your charges away from home could set off a fraud alert if the bank isn’t aware of your trip.
Check with your cell phone company about a temporary international plan. These have become much more affordable in recent years, and you won’t have to rely on wifi to communicate.
Be sure to order an electrical adapter with the correct voltage. If you’re traveling to several countries, there are adapters that work with a number of countries.
